Just a twenty-something-year-old attempting to navigate this whole thing called “life.” SLP by day, and a writer by night, living off of dark roast coffee and rom-coms! Can’t wait to delve into the wedding world with you all, piece by piece!
Cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, donuts… How can you possibly choose just one! I read not too long ago that a majority of wedding-goers claim the most important thing about a wedding is the food and the dessert! This makes sense considering life revolves around breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Of course, you want the main course to be delicious (we will get to that another time, I promise). But today, I wanted to take a little time to write a love letter to all things sweet!
When I used to think of weddings my brain immediately went to a large, 3 tiered, white cake, with delicate embellishments! Not until the last couple of years, have I uncovered the side of the wedding world that does not discriminate against any type of sweet! There are so many different directions to go when it comes to the tasty treat served on your day. So here we go folks, different ways to “sweeten” up your day:
Cake or Cake Pops
Don’t fix it, if it ain’t broke! Cake is the tried-and-true of weddings, and for good reason. It is delicious, gorgeous, and honestly it’s just simply served to mass amounts of people! I never want to discourage the choice of cake, because you truly can’t go wrong. The purpose of this piece is not to diss our loyal friend, but rather to open your mind on ALL the possibilities of desserts. If you desire a little adventure but aren’t confident in straying from the classic.. a fun, light-hearted way to celebrate cake in a different way is with Cake Pops! Our wonderful friend Jenni Pops over in Cleveland, is just the girl for the job. She will be sure to spice up your day with beautiful, customizable cake pops. A handful of smaller cakes instead of one large one is a great way to think outside of the box. Plus, the more flavors the better!
Cookies
I could talk about my love for cookies forever. The possibilities are endless, and it seems that they are ever-evolving! There are chocolate chip cookies, blueberry lemon, raspberry cheesecake, oatmeal raisin.. Must I go on? I couldn’t think of a better way to cover all your bases! There’s a cookie for mama, your best friend from college, third cousin joe, and everyone in between. If you’re looking to make everyone do a little happy dance, cookies may be your call.
Donuts
Donuts for dessert is a pinterest-lovers dream! If you search “wedding dessert ideas,” your feed will sure be flooded with beautiful arrangements of donuts. I remember seeing this for the first time and thinking, “genius!” Donuts are so sweet, so convenient, and the variety available is second-to-none. This may be the perfect way to make your dessert table a perfect photo-op! People will sure be buzzing about your wedding for many times to come.
Ice cream bar
Now, we are getting a little more out there. Ice cream might be a difficult game to play as melting time has to be taken into consideration, but this would be the perfect dessert for a quaint wedding. Now more than ever, “microweddings” are making their mark on the wedding world! If you are having a smaller wedding, an ice cream bar would be an absolute dream for all involved. With a selection of various ice cream flavors, favorite toppings from caramel to sprinkles, and a side of whipped cream; I promise, not a soul will be disappointed.
Cotton Candy
I am immediately brought back to some of my favorite childhood memories when I think of cotton candy. Baseball games, carnivals, fairs, etc. Cotton candy is a spontaneous and extraordinarily different dessert you may want to consider! A wonderful way to add touches to your day that have rarely been done before, but still will please the ones that you love. What a better way than to highlight an element of “care-free” in your day, than to bring the inner-child out of everyone with this super-sweet past-time.
S’mores bar
Having my lifetime in the Midwest, I have undoubtedly eaten my body weight (and then some!) in s’mores. S’mores are another food that bring me back to nothing but good summer memories filled with family and friends. If you are having an outdoor wedding, S’mores could be that final touch you were searching for. The best talks, the best times, and the best flavors come from this decadent treat. If your ears are turned-up at the sound of this, Sweet Costo in Lakewood, OH is the perfect place to go! Aside from gorgeous cakes and macaroons, Sweet Costo offers S’mores as a delicious party favor. Everyone will be asking for “s’more!” (I couldn’t pass up this opportunity).
The list goes on…
How could I forget cinnamon rolls, waffles and pancakes, candy bars, etc! I honestly believe I could mention every dessert in the game and list 5 reasons why each would be a trustworthy way to go. However, we don’t have the time today (maybe at a later date)!
Honorable mention
Let’s say you don’t have much of a “sweet tooth.” Here is my tip for you savory-lovers… This is your day and what you enjoy matters. And let’s just say this, I have never seen someone frown at the sight of pizza! A mid-dance snack might be just the treat you are looking for instead!
The bottom line is this: you have every reason to go with a fan favorite OR you can decide to join me outside the box for your celebratory treat. Both have the ability to stand the test of time!
