Wardrobe choices for your wedding party can quickly become overwhelming. You have multiple body styles, skin tones, and preferences to consider. Fortunately enough though, the wedding scene has changed when it comes to bridal party attire, and the newest concept will make this component of your wedding planning that much easier.

Let’s talk about mix-and-match style bridesmaids’ dresses.

One of my favorite recurring concepts from MG Wedding Coordination’s 2020 wedding season was differentiated bridesmaid attire, and let me tell you, I saw a plethora of takes on this concept. Whether it was the same hue with different styles, different hues with the same style, or different styles and different hues — I loved the variation that it brought to the wedding galleries, and the confidence it obviously evoked for each bridesmaid who was comfortable in what they were wearing.

So here’s why I’m advocating for the mix-and-match bridesmaid dresses concept to keep going in 2021:

• Flatter your girls — The “I’m the bride and to make myself stand out more, I’m going to make my bridesmaids look bad” concept went out so. long. ago. Seriously, girl, you are going to GLOW in your wedding gown, and you want your girls to be glowing, too. Unless you want to choose a bridesmaid dress that is really universal when it comes to body style, letting your girls pick from a variation of dresses that compliment your theme will only benefit you. This way every girl gets to pick what they’re comfortable in, and in turn, their confidence is going to show in your wedding portraits and on the dance floor.
• You’re still in control — A lot of bridesmaid dress companies are really making it easy to bring your vision to fruition when it comes to variation within reason. They’ll send you swatches, not only to determine hues but also to determine fabrics. Because let’s face it, dusty rose in satin fabric and dusty rose in chiffon fabric might as well be two completely different colors. So pick a bridesmaid dress company that has styles and hues you’re interested in, order some swatches, and then give your girls guidance. Choose hues and materials that you are comfortable with as it pertains to fitting your vision. This allows them the freedom to pick what they like, but it’s also reigned in enough that you still have complete control over the look and ultimate “style” of the attire.
• Variation is good — Whether it’s style of dress or hue, your wedding portraits are going to have so much creative expression when you choose differentiated bridesmaid dresses. Even the same fabric types can have different textures or details, and those things will stand out about your big day. Don’t box yourself in when it comes to wedding day design, be creative with your vision, and let that carry on through your bridesmaid attire!
